Naughty Dog Comments on The Last of Us Multiplayer Doubts

Sony just announced The Last of Us pre-order details on its blog. Instead of announcing the pre-order bonuses, they also revealed The Last of Us multiplayer – multiplayer is a big mass for Naughty Dog since Uncharted 2!

Today Naughty Dog announced The Last of Us has multiplayer, but a lot of their fans just don’t like it!

Multiplayer? Are you kidding me…this is a joke. I am seriously considering not buying this now. I absolutely hate tacked-on mp garbage especially in such a SP orientated game like this.

Naughty Dog says

We don’t approach MP in any of our games as tacked on. And we also always have separate teams working on the different components so that we can maintain full focus on making SP and MP up to our standards.

The Last of Us is incredibly awesome, but why Naughty Dog added multiplayer.

I’m incredibly excited for this game… but like… why the HELL even add multiplayer.
There are more games that I can count that have a tacked on half baked MP component that don’t need it at all/ are hardly a selling point.
Stupid move, show some faith in your own game. I’m SURE the SP stands on its own…

Naughty Dog says

And we have faith that our MP will stand on it’s own. If we felt like it would be tacked on, we wouldn’t have added it. We want all our game experiences to be of the highest quality and that’s what we work extremely hard to deliver.

“Multiplayer” Oh God no…
I really don’t mind having a multiplayer mode. What I do mind is skimping out on the single player experience so there’s more time to build a mediocre multiplayer mode.
I predict the multiplayer mode for this game will go exactly the same way Uncharted 3 did. It’ll have almost nobody playing it. Some people will decide to give it a try but they will be hammered flat into the ground by people who already know where all the powerful weapons are, have good knowledge of the maps , and have all the best boosters unlocked.

Naughty Dog says

TLOU has been in preproduction and production for quite some time – the SP portion of the game hasn’t been skimped out on in any way.

Naughty Dog eventually replied that The Last of Us has separate teams with separate resources…

Yeah I remember when MP was announced for U2. And in actual fact it wasn’t that great (to me I guess), nor was Uncharted 3′s MP. Tacked on garbage that took away resources that should have been used to improve the SP.
This NEVER felt like it should have been a MP game. Yes I haven’t seen it but it doesn’t matter. Its unnecessary and exists so non-collectors don’t trade the game in sooner, and so they can sell a god damn online pass

Naughty Dog says

MP has never taken away resources from the SP game in any of our games, always separate teams, separate resources. The folks working on the single player campaign always have the resources and support to complete that portion of the game to the vision they planned for.
